Something shockingly wonderful happened to my husband and I yesterday. I was reminded, again, of how seriously beautiful things can happen when we least expect it. Love always, always comes back to us in one way or another & realizing that it's happening, while it happens, left me practically bewildered.
We were surprised with gifts for our 3 year wedding anniversary, which for the record, isn't until next Wednesday. One of my best good friends is to thank for all of it. She called me into her office, (oh yeah, she happens to be my boss, but we were colleagues+friends first, so that title wins) and told me to shut the door. I instantly started running through the 30 or so emails in my mind that we must have exchanged the day before, trying to think of what I could have messed up on, or missed, that was so important it made her use 'the tone'. You know that tone that you wish your boss never uses, ever? Yeah, that one.
I shut the door behind me and she handed me an envelope. After explaining that she did something fun yesterday and just couldn't wait until next week to share it with me, I finally let myself exhale and began to open the envelope. Now, something worth knowing is that I LOVE cards, I mean who doesn't? There is just something about getting one, especially unexpectedly that makes everything better.
The pink sparkles that fell on my lap when I opened it made me laugh and the handwritten words I began to read on the inside made me cry almost instantly. After I read and cried, at the card, as if the actual paper was to thank for making me so feel so loved on a Tuesday morning at 8am, I hugged it. I almost didn't because we had a semi important meeting scheduled with some lovely people from the corporate office at 10am, but then decided WTH? I might as well!
Pink sparkles on my shirt and neck can't possibly make me look that unprofessional can they? *answer: yes.
She then handed me a giant navy blue bag, with a lovely little navy blue swarovski box buried at the bottom. Would you believe the most lovely pink crystal necklace and matching earrings were hiding out inside? Magic right? I put them on instantly in between hugs and thank you's. She then handed me a second envelope for me to give to my husband later that day.
She is clearly a freaking spectacular person through and through. We've grown together a lot through the years and I can easily say I wouldn't know all I know or appreciate the desire to learn even more without her determination as my inspiration. Determination is a seriously beautiful thing and this woman has it unlike anyone else!
For Ryman and I, our marriage hasn't been honored quite like this since our wedding day. We get the 'happy anniversary!' from a lot of great friends on Facebook & love it of course, but this was heartfelt and genuine and so beyond words thoughtful.
As icing on the cake, she confirmed officially that we are able to get a night away at one of our hotels (yay holiday party gift certificate) and that we also have dinner reservations, set perfectly for 6:30, on the 2nd. We said out vows around 5pm 3 years ago, on the 2nd, and I can't wait to honor that next week with a fantastic meal and a mini staycation a few towns over.
