New York went by quick. I learned that I'm 100% without a doubt in love with all things Central Park. We spent most of our time in the city, in the park, and now that I'm home I'm thinking the relaxed vibe I'm kind of holding onto has a lot to do with it. Maybe.
I took a lot more pictures in NY than in DC, again, I totally blame the park ;-) Not to mention my very best friend, Jackie just got engaged like three weeks ago at the park! Maybe that's why I couldn't stop photographing it.. I wanted to capture it for her! Yeah.. I think I'll go with that as my official reason for loosing my mind and taking pictures of everything like a crazy lady.
We tried to make sure Grandma got to see everything the big apple has to offer but by the second day, she was pretty much spent. Ryman and I separated from the group and kind of did our own thing, the ladies still got all the major spots in and that's what mattered most. The apt we had was great, just enough room for all of us, barely. We were two blocks from the park and two blocks from the subway, close enough to the store but far enough away to still be away from it all.
The weather stayed perfect at about 80 degrees the whole time, except the last night when we got caught in a lightning storm, on the Brooklyn bridge. I still can't believe how many people don't wear clothes in central park. They just lay out a blanket and strip down, which I think I got a picture of next to the Belvedere Castle. My mom loved the Belvedere, so I'm glad we got a chance to see it together.
A lot of the pictures I took were in the park, and if it wasn’t one of the bridges, it was some of the flowers that I just couldn’t stop photographing. So who’s the sappy photographer? ..um yeah that would be me. Just like in DC, Ryman encouraged me to take a lot of pictures, and as a result, all of the below (that I'm not in) are mine!
Ryman loved the Intrepid, and honestly the amount of aircraft they have on that ship is insane, if you happen to be on that side of town next time you visit, pay the ridiculous entry fee and take some time to enjoy the history a little. I loved all the street food that we stumbled upon and took pictures of everything I wanted to eat but didn't. We even took the train out to Jersey to see the Cake Boss, Buddy had already left for the day but the girls who work there were super nice and let me take pictures of all the calories laughing at me from behind the counter!
While we were in Greenwich village I got to see Carrie’s house from SATC, cutest neighborhood of all time! The night we went out to Brooklyn was the rainstorm and thankfully it didn’t start in until we were almost back in Manhattan. Walking the bridge is just one of those things tourists do, and so we did it, Ryman got some amazing photos, mine.. well you can see for yourself! It was almost laughable, but at least I'm trying, kind of.
The subway kind of sucked, but I got one of my favorite photos of the whole trip while waiting on one of the platforms, so I guess it wasn’t all that bad. OH! AND I almost forgot, on Monday morning my aunt Kim, Ryman and I got up at 5am to head over to W67th & Columbus to the ABC studios where they film Live with Regis and Kelly, while we were waiting in the standby line I heard some girls screaming from behind us. I looked and saw Cory Montieth walking out of the studio. Immediately about 15 giggly girls were standing all around him asking for autographs. Something to note is that dude is tall! I had no idea, anyway I didn’t know what to do at first and just kind of stood there completely frozen like an idiot. After about 20 seconds I decided WTH - C'est la vie and all that, and just ran all the way down the block, there was literally a barricade of women blocking me from him, so I just ran out into the street and got in front of all of them, approached him from the side and asked if it would be okay if we took a picture together.. FINN said 'yeah sure, of course' and put his arm around me, I instantly turned into a ridiculous 15 year old version of myself and couldn’t stop laughing. Ryman was clicking away and I think of the 10 or so shots he got of us, absolutely NONE of them turned out even half way decent! CM looks amazingly handsome, I look as if I just stepped off the set of Twister. Apparently running down the block like a fool had its downside after all. Anyway, we got the picture, but it's the only one in the bunch that manages to make me look like I'm half Tasmanian devil. Side note, the boy has abs, like rock hard TV star abs. Yes I accidently noticed when I touched his chest, (but was actually his stomach, because to reiterate dude is tall) to say Thank you so much for the picture. Anyway, YAY for all of that.
I hope to go through each day and chronicle it all for my grandmother soon, she is after all the reason we all went on this trip and making sure she got to experience a little bit of what the East Coast has to offer was the most important thing to all of us.
